Sonal Patel , O.D.
Dr. Sonal Patel was born in New York and raised in Bay City, Texas, a small town southwest of Houston. She began fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor when she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.
Dr. Patel always envisioned a career in health care. After exploring many areas of medicine, specializing in the eye is what she found to be most intriguing. Dr. Patel was accepted to The University of Houston College of Optometry, one of the top optometry programs in the nation. Throughout her years there, she had many achievements including several letters of clinical excellence. She was also awarded a UHCO IOP publication for her article on "The Implantable Contact Lens." Dr. Patel graduated magna cum laude with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2001.
Dr. Patel furthered her training by completing a residency in Ocular Disease at St. Joseph's Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. She is licensed by the National Board of Optometry for the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease. Furthermore, she has received additional training in glaucoma and is certified as a Glaucoma Specialist.
After completing her residency, Dr. Patel embraced the opportunity to gain additional experience in pediatrics. Her experience in pediatrics included examining children at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children with a variety of illnesses as well as mental and physical disabilities. Her time there truly revealed her passion of helping those who are sick and in need of care. Dr. Patel also has experience in the corneal refractive surgery and geriatrics.
Dr. Patel has been in practice in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for 5 years and currently resides in the Las Colinas area. Her family continues to live in the Houston area. She especially enjoys various types of dancing, playing volleyball, and traveling but loves to explore new activities all the time. Dr. Patel also takes pleasure in volunteering her time by providing eye care for various charitable organizations.
